Beck

Based on the characters of the wildly popular Martin Beck detective series of novels by Swedish husband and wife writers, Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö, Beck sees the much-loved detective brought to life on the small screen.

Following the fortunes of enigmatic and extremely methodical detective Martin Beck and his partner, the irascible, impulsive Gunvald Larsson, Beck is arguably the originator of what has become known as Scandinavian crime: the good-cop, bad-cop partnership which went on to form the modern crimefighting blueprint. Starring Peter Haber (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in the more reserved role and Mikael Persbrandt (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Larsson.

Beck’s combination of complex woven details of police detection and beautifully realised characters combined with twisting, masterful storylines has ensured that the award-winning series has won fans and acclaim from around the world.

Francesca is forced to serve at the lord’s castle which eventually leads her into prostitution.

When Bernat accidentally commits a crime, he flees with his son to Barcelona, where he can become a free citizen. He seeks refuge at his sister’s house, she is married to a rich potter who promises to take Arnau on as an apprentice when the child grows up. Following Bernat’s sister’s death his brother-inlaw remarries, but his new wife makes Bernat and Arnau’s life unbearable and they leave the house.

After an incident triggered by hunger, Bernat is arrested and subsequently hung. Arnau shelters in the church of the Virgin of the Sea, which is under construction, taken under the wing of the “bastaixos” or porters, who accept him into their brotherhood. From that moment on, Arnau’s life is linked to the building of the church.

As an adult he weds Maria while involved in a tempestuous relationship with Aledis, a married woman. To put an end to this betrayal and avoid temptation, he enrols in the royal army. On his return home, the plague kills his wife. The Jews are accused of causing the epidemic and Arnau protects the children of Hasdai Crescas, a wealthy merchant, who, in gratitude, introduces him to the world of commerce thereby making him rich. After being named Consul of the Sea, the King forces Arnau to marry his ward Elinor. She soon realizes that Arnau secretly loves Mar, the daughter of a friend who died during the plague, and she plots to keep Mar out of Arnau’s reach to spite him as he rejected her as a wife.

Accused of Judaizing, Arnau is detained by the Inquisition and tortured until his innocence is proven. Elinor dies at the hands of Joan, Arnau’s adoptive brother, a monk of the Inquisition repentant for having betrayed him. With his honor and his wealth restored, Arnau and Mar can finally love each other under the watch of the church of Santa María del Mar, which is now happily completed.

The pressure mounts in each round, after a pre-determined number of cases are opened, the participant is tempted by a mysterious entity known only as “the Banker” to accept an offer of cash in exchange for what might be contained in the contestant’s chosen briefcase – prompting the host to ask the all-important question – Deal Or No Deal?

The contestant knows that as long as the larger cash prizes haven’t been opened, the Banker’s deals will only get higher. And if the conflicted contestant accidentally opens a case with a bigger cash value – the Banker’s offer could suddenly evaporate.

Pointless

In Pointless, contestants try to score as few points as possible by plumbing the depths of their general knowledge to come up with the answers no one else can think of.

Every question has already been asked before the show to a panel of 100 people to find out the most obvious and the most obscure answers. Pairs of contestants compete for a cash prize by finding the least obvious answers and scoring the fewest points. Points correspond to the number of people who answered the survey.

The holy grail is a pointless answer a correct answer that none of the 100 people thought of. If a contestant is able to find that answer in the short time allotted he earns the unbeatable score of zero. On the other hand, if the contestants answer has been said by a lot of people in the panel, hes slammed with many points, putting him at great risk for elimination. In the end, the person with the lowest overall score walks away with the cash prize.

Utopia

Conspiracy theory turned terrifyingly real is the subject of this ground-breaking, channel-defining drama series written by Dennis Kelly, the co-creator of the Olivier Award-winning Matilda, and directed by Marc Munden (Black Sails). When an unconnected group of people find themselves in possession of the manuscript for a legendary graphic novel, Utopia, their lives are set to change forever as they are forced to run from a shadowy and murderous organisation known as The Network. All they know is that The Network is all-pervasive; in government, in business and in charge, and will stop at nothing to get to Utopia.

Season 2 picks up four months after the destruction of the Utopia manuscript. Believing the Network to be finished, Becky, Ian and Grant each try to get back to some semblance of normality. But far from being over, the Network is only just beginning. Production of the vaccine, which will unknowingly sterilise the human race, is now in full swing and, with Jessica Hyde as their prisoner, The Network finally possess Janus, the secret within the vaccine.

Dark secrets from the past begin to resurface into the present and the group is now faced with the explosive revelation that Janus is something far more terrifying than they could ever have imagined. As the Network’s destructive plans are finally set into motion, our heroes are catapulted into a deadly race against time in order to prevent a disaster of truly global proportions. The holiday is over. It’s time to run. It’s time to find Jessica Hyde. It’s time to find Utopia.

The Wall

The Wall is a wildly unpredictable, fast and simple game show with huge cash sums on the line. Two players must work together to tackle the mammoth four-story-high wall. Emotions run high as the pair’s faith in one another is tested by unpredictable outcomes and ever-rising stakes. The rules are simple. If the players answer a trivia question correctly the ball turns green as it falls randomly down the wall towards slots of varying cash amounts. These amounts are then added to the player’s prize pot. However, answer a question incorrectly and the ball turns red and will deduct the amount from the player’s totals from the slot it lands in. In the first round the players both answer the questions while in the second round they are split with one entering an isolation booth and one controlling The Wall based on if they think their partner has answered right or wrong. In the final round, the isolated player must choose between signing a contract for a set amount of money or taking a bet to see if their partner has been lucky with The Wall. Filled with a roller coaster of emotions, heart stopping moments and big wins and big losses, what The Wall gives, The Wall can take away.
