Endemol Shine China and Hunan TV to sing together in latest co-development deal
Global content creator, producer and distributor Endemol Shine Group are pleased to announce the latest non-scripted format to be co-developed by Endemol Shine China and leading content producer and broadcaster Hunan TV.
Sing or Spin is a brand-new primetime entertainment format with an innovative spin. A unique revolving stage lets singers know how well they are scoring. The show has been developed as part of Hunan TV’s Biu Project, an initiative set up to create a new pipeline of pilots for the leading Chinese linear channel.
The combined co-development team for Sing or Spin is led by Rebecca De Young, Endemol Shine China’s Head of Content, and Lester Hu, Hunan TV’s Head of Formats and International Business.
Endemol Shine China and Hunan TV’s partnership has been approved by China’s National Radio and Television Administration and has been given the authority’s full support in line with the Chinese government’s call for further content innovation and content export.
William Tan, Managing Director of Endemol Shine China says; “This deal is part of our ongoing approach to long-term strategic partnerships for non-scripted programming in China and we’re excited to once again co-develop a new format with Hunan TV. They are undoubtedly one of China’s top players with a schedule packed with original and creative output. We firmly believe such cooperation benefits both parties and will enable us to elevate the Chinese market internationally.”
Lisa Perrin, CEO of Creative Networks at Endemol Shine Group says,
“We are thrilled that our talented creatives at Endemol Shine China have joined forces with the equally brilliant Hunan TV to co-develop a format which has huge potential to entertain audiences not only in China but also globally.”
Lester Hu, Head of Format and International Business says;
“Sing or Spin is a milestone co-development which reinforces our strategy to partner with international content creators to bring original Chinese TV formats to the global market. As we continue our hunt for fresh new format ideas that work in China and the rest of the world, it’s fantastic to launch our third primetime entertainment show developed through Biu Project at MIPCOM. We’ll be back in Cannes next year when we partner with Reed Midem for the first time ever at the MIP Formats International Pitch.”
Sing or Spin will be showcased on the first day of MIPCOM in Cannes at an exclusive event in the Verriere Californie, Palais des Festival where the promo will be premiered to buyers at the Hunan TV International Biu Project Conference. Lisa Perrin will join Hunan TV’s executives to share the journey of their international co-development.
Endemol Shine China are behind a range of hits including ratings success Puzzle Masters for Jiangsu TV which has just been commissioned for its third season and expected to air early 2020. Meanwhile, following a stellar two series, CCTV have ordered a brand new third season of The Nation’s Greatest Treasures also set to broadcast in early 2020.
Hunan TV’s Biu Project is China’s first ever pilot production system to test out fresh ideas both locally and abroad and created over 500 hours of original non-scripted content in 2018.
